1950’s and 60’s rock
Bob Seger recorded a song a few years
back called "Turn the Page" the chorus goes like this: "Here
I am on the road again; there I am up on the stage. Here I go playin'
star again; there I go, turn the page." And, so it is with the
1960's rock band The Ravens. After nearly 18 years into their second
retirement, and after 40 years since first hitting the stage together,
here they go again. Sadly, minus their fearless leader, but, eager to
perform for their old fans and their new fans. It was Duke Rosendahl
who took the lead in an attempt to reunite the band. Remembering their
successful but brief comeback performing at the Hazelton Centennial
street dance in 2003, Rosendahl decided to contact Moch with an idea
on how the band could meld its now well establish private lives with
their continuing urge to perform. "Why not just get together for
the fun of it?" Rosendahl stated. "No pressure, families and
jobs come first", he continued. After many conversations on the
reunion and the new philosophy of how the band should work, Rosendahl
and Moch began contacting the other members of the band. An agreement
was reached by all members and almost immediately Les Kautz booked the
first gig, a two hour show for the Linton Chamber of Commerce in November
2005. The two hour show interested Moch very much. Continued discussions
with other band members on the "show" aspect of performing
rather than the "dance band" aspect of performing proved to
be a very popular idea. It was decided that the "new" Ravens
would offer its talents as a 2-hour show band (no 4 hour dance gigs).
It was also decided that a large amount of the work they would accept
would be benefit work. This would enable charitable organizations in
smaller communities to obtain quality entertainment for an affordable
price. With the help of an excellent article written by Lauren Donovan
which appeared in the Bismarck Tribune in early 2006, the word has gotten
out. So, "here we go again, up on the stage, playin' star again,
turn the page".
