N.D. National Guard’s 188th Air Defense Artillery
(SECFOR)
Scheduled Return to North Dakota
Bismarck, N.D. – They left home over a year ago
(Dec. 2005) en route to Afghanistan after a brief stop at Fort Lewis,
Wash. for training. Now, most of the Soldiers (109) of the 188th Air
Defense Artillery (ADA) Security Forces (SECFOR) are slated to return
home to N.D. Friday, March 30.
A chartered aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Bismarck
on Friday, March 30 at 12:20 p.m. The Soldiers will off-load at the
Bismarck Municipal Airport passenger terminal.
The same chartered aircraft will then depart Bismarck
and is expected to arrive in Grand Forks at 2:00 p.m. The Soldiers will
off-load at the Grand Forks International Airport passenger terminal.
The 188th ADA SECFOR returned to the U.S. in two sections;
the main body (115) arrived at Fort Lewis, March 22, while the remaining
29 Soldiers are projected to arrive at Seattle-Tacoma Airport on Wednesday,
March 28. This smaller group of Soldiers, which remained in Afghanistan
a week longer in order to pass missions to the replacing unit, is expected
to return home to N.D. within 5 to 7 days via commercial airlines.
The 188th ADA still has one other unit currently deployed
to Afghanistan; the 188th ADA-Rapid Aerostat Initial Deployment (RAID).
They have been in country since Jan. 2007.
