A fallen North Dakota soldier was honored today at Minot State University.

Corporal Nathan Goodiron of Mandaree died last Thanksgiving when he was serving with the 188th National Guard Unit in Afghanistan. He was killed when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle.

At the 18th annual Honor Dance and Spring Celebration held today at the MSU Dome, University President Dr. David Fuller presented Goodiron's parents and wife with a gift in the young man's honor.

Nathan's mom Harriet Goodiron says her son would be proud of today's event.

(Harriet Good Iron, Nathan's Mother) "He didn't gloat in what he did, and he was very happy, and he appreciated a lot of things in life that was there. And I know he would be happy that, you know, that everyone is there to recognize and honor him."

Earlier this week, MSU held a ceremony to dedicate a display case outside of the campus' Native American Cultural Center in memory of the former student .

Goodiron would have graduated from MSU this May. President Fuller will present the Goodiron family with an honorary degree for Nathan at the commencement ceremony next week.
